The 2nd Annual Chizziz and Beer Fest/5K Turkey Trot

As you may recall from last year, one of the departing Marines wanted a chili and beer fest as his going away party.  Since it was such a success, it was decided that it would become an annual event and proceed with the name Chizziz and Beer Fest (due to the wood carver’s error).  The homebrewers were all happy to show off their brews in a friendly competition.  The chili competition was a bit heated (get it!!!) and there were more chilis made for this year’s competition.  It was another successful event, and even more so because a vegan chili didn’t win this time around!

One of our friends in RSO worked to include Embassy Kampala in the worldwide RSO 5K Turkey Trot.  Being good friends we, of course, had to join.  What our friend did not expect though is that we had agreed with the Marines to all wear different costumes as we did the 5K.  I don’t remember how the idea started, but everyone was on board and we, of course, had a ton of costumes from past Halloweens to dole out.  We were up-staged at being the weirdest things there though as another couple brought their real live pet turkey to the trot.  Someone they know gifted it to them, but since they are vegan, they couldn’t eat it.  They also didn’t have the heart to give it away to be someone else’s dinner, so they kept it as a pet (no idea what they plan to do with it after they depart Kampala).  The turkey was a fun addition to the event, and you could hear it gobble around every loop.  One of the best parts about the whole event was Katie spotted two African grey parrots along the route.  Our time definitely took a hit as Katie would make us stop each time around to see if the birds were still there.

It was a great event and just made us even hungrier for the 2nd Annual Friendsgiving that was again held at the Marine house.  The dinner was another success and was even larger than the last one.
