Saint Patrick’s Day Fun

Somehow we missed out on this blog post last year, but as we all know Saint Patty’s Day is the best time of the year.  Both last year and this year the Irish Embassy threw a huge Irish Ball.  It was basically a repeat of last year, which is to say that it was a great party!  Once again the Irish Embassy flew in real Guinness from Ireland, which just tastes so much better than the Guinness you can get here (made in Kenya).  They actually ran out of Guinness this year, though Greg may have walked out with two in his jacket to save for later!  We may have to go to Ireland to get some more after we run out.  Both years it was funny to watch as the Irish would repeatedly show the Ugandan servers the “proper” way to pour a Guinness.

All the girls!
This year they had something different at the ball and actually had a huge raffle for charity.  We bought one row of tickets to help out the cause and we actually won a raffle!  The prize was a free night stay at a very fancy hotel in Ishasha (part of Queen Elizabeth National Park).  More to come on that in another post, but definitely exciting.

The Irish aren’t the only ones that can throw an Irish party though.  The prior weekend our good friends Judd and Marie had a Saint Patrick’s Day Wine and Cheese event, which was dominated by homebrewed beer instead of wine.  I think there were 8 different homebrews, in which Greg made a coffee stout named Morning Monkey that was really tasty.  The tally after the party was 170 beer bottles, 9 bottles of wine, and 3 bottles of Jameson along with tons of good food.  Definitely, the largest homebrew event that we have ever had and an all-around great party.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
